Zu den verschiedenen Richtungen innerhalb der Rockmusik zählte einst zweifelsohne der "Space Rock ". Dieses war einst die Umschreibung für eine bestimmte Musikrichtung, die sich stilistisch zwar nicht gravierend von der herkömmlichen Rockmusik abhob, jedoch aufgrund des Einsatzes von elektronischen Hilfsmitteln, wie den " Wah-Wah "-Effekt oder den Moog-Syntheziser einige andere Elemente in die Musikstücke einfließen lassen.
" Space Rock ", das waren die Formationen von " Hawkwind ", " Nektar " oder " Gong ", aber auch die britische Gruppe " UFO ".

Als die Band 1969 gegründet wurde, hörten sich ihre Titel zwar eher nach dem üblichen Songs aus den damaligen Single - Charts oder den LP-Veröffentlichungen an.

Mit der Single " C'm one everybody " / " Timothy " landeten die vier Musiker einen " Smash Hit ".
Später folgte die Single - Auskoppelung " Come away Melinda " und " Boogie ".
Das erste Album 1970 enthält 10 Titel:

Die LP kursierte unter den Veröffentlichungen " Progressive Rockmusik ". Eine Spezifizierung, in der sich auch namhafte Formationen wie " Black Sabbath ", " Deep Purple " oder " Colosseum " wieder fanden.
Der Hauptproduzent war das Label " Vertigo ".
Als zu Beginn der 70er Jahre jene Bands wie Unkraut aus dem Boden sprossen, zählte ich " UFO ", von denen ich alle drei Singel besaß, nämlich neben den Obengenannten auch noch " Prince Kajuku " / " The coming of Prince Kajuku ", natürlich auch dazu.
Dann erschien irgendwann im Herbst 1971 das zweite Album von " UFO " mit dem Titel " Flying " - " One hour space rock ". Ich kaufte mir die LP einst in Hannover in einem Plattengeschäft in der Altstadt / Steintor.
Was ich nach dem Auflegen im heimischen Zimmer über den Plattenhobel hörte, riß mich zunächst nicht vom Hocker. Viel elektronischer Schnick-Schnack und zwei Titel mit mit Überlänge.

Das es Stücke gab, die bereits die unübliche Schallmauer von 5 Minuten Spielzeit durchbrachen, wenn auch überwiegend nur auf den Langspielplatten, war mir zu dieser Zeit längst bekannt, aber Titel, wie " Star Storm ( 18.00 Min. ) und " Flying " ( 26.30 Min. ), das kannte ich bislang noch nicht.
Nach mehrmaligen Hineinhören gefiel mir die LP immer besser. Das Jahr 1971 verabschiedete sich. Die Platte stand längst im " Beatkeller " und wurde von mir dort regelmäßig abgespielt. Dieses nicht nur, weil ich vielleicht 2 Dutzend LPs besaß, sondern weil mir die Stücke allesamt gefielen.

Ein wunderbares Stück Rock-Geschichte. Und weil ich nach 40 Jahren hierbei immer noch in großen Erinnerungen schwelge, nicht nur wegen meines ersten Vollrausches in der Nacht vom 31. 12. 1971 zum 01.01. 1972 mit anschließender "Kotz-Orgie " und zwei Tagen Hungerstreik aufgrund des rebellierenden Magens, stelle ich den Text des Single-Hits " Come away Melinda " noch mit ein. Ein Lied, dass bei mir die nostalgische Seite ebenso voll zur Entfaltung bringen kann ( Haaaaach, wie schön war doch die "Scheiß-Jugend " von einst! ):

"UFO" tourt heute noch. Und - so ganz nebenbei gesagt - es trommelte bei der Gruppe einst ein gewisser Jason Bonham, der Sohn des legendären Drummer John Bonham aus der Supergroup " Led Zeppelin ".
